There's no denying the expectations for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens are high. Deadline caught up with John Boyega, who plays Finn in The Force Awakens, at the 2016 Film Independent Indie Spirit Awards nominee announcement and asked him about it. Boyega told them,
“I think for now, based on what I saw, and based on my experiences on the set, I just don’t know,” Boyega said, throwing his hands up. “This is a discussion I was having with J.J. [Abrams] yesterday and I was just like ‘How are people going to react to this movie?’ But there’s going to be a reaction for sure.” He continued, “I’m going to try to see it as many times as possible with different audiences just to gauge everyone’s opinions of it.”
There has been some negative reaction to this quote, which I think is unfounded. I don't think Boyega is saying the film is bad, as some have suggested. I think he's referring to certain twists and turns the story might take that may be different from what some fans expected going into the film (if you've been following the spoilers, you know what I mean). That being said, with film this huge and with so many expectations it will be impossible to please everybody. So people won't be happy with it no matter what.
