One of the more interesting aspects of this new batch of Star Wars films is the fact that they are the first to be produced in the age of social media. Actors, directors and other creators involved in the process have made waiting for the films much more fun with their antics on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere.

Among them has been Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley, who portrays one of the most popular new characters, Rey. While the actress' various posts on social media were a huge hit with fans, Ridley caused quite a stir back in August when her Instagram account suddenly vanished. Rumors quickly spread that she may have been bullied off the site, but Ridley soon after released a statement explaining that she left Instagram to avoid being "distracted" from her career.

Now Daisy has returned to further set the record straight. Sky News reports that Ridley recently attended the Student Academy Awards in Los Angeles as a presenter and briefly spoke about her recent social media absence. Here's what she had to say:

“I felt a pressure being on it. I was like ‘I need to post. Oh my God, it’s been this many days’. It’s actually been kind of nice not to be on it. I’m 24. I have a lot of growing up to do. I have to deal with loads of stuff myself personally. For that to be projected with millions of people watching, that is like a bit of an extra pressure... I think some people handle it well. Just right now it’s not for me, but who knows.”

I personally very much enjoyed Daisy's posts on social media. What she shared from behind the scenes of Episodes VII and VIII were always fun, and her willingness to speak out about many important issues in our society was particularly moving. Miss Ridley has become an incredible role model over the past few years and I look forward to online comeback.

In the meantime, you can still follow Daisy on Facebook, which is her only official social media outlet at this time.
