News regarding the upcoming Han Solo standalone "A Star Wars Story" film has been few and far between recently, but things just heated up on the casting front. Variety has reportedly just revealed the shortlist of actresses that are up for the role of female lead in the film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich and is directed by The Lego Movie's Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
According to Variety, Zoë Kravitz(Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent), Tessa Thompson(Selma, Creed) and Naomi Scott(The Martian, Power Rangers) were all "tested" in London this week. Regarding the news, Variety adds:
They also followed up on the recent rumors regarding the casting of a younger Lando Calrrisian:
Filming is expected to begin in early 2017, with a release on May 25th, 2018, so the cast will definitely have to be finalized soon, and we may even get some official announcements about it. As for this news, even though it's coming from a reliable source, we have to take it with a grain of salt until it's officially confirmed by Lucasfilm.
