While the eyes of the world are focused on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hitting theaters, the team working on Star Wars Episode VIII are looking ahead to next December and making sure their film is a worthy follow up to seven current Star Wars films. One member of that team who is hard at work is legendary composer John Williams, who composed the iconic scores of the first seven Star Wars films. Williams is back for Episode VIII and, according to Variety, begins recording the film's musical score this month!
According to Variety,
"Williams concedes that he had hoped for greater commercial success for “The BFG,” which was deemed a box-office disappointment after its July 1 release. His next film, however, won’t be: He begins recording “Star Wars Episode VIII” in December and expects to record off and on through March or April 2017."
Wow! New John Williams Star Warsmusic will be recorded this month, that is something that will never cease to be exciting. For those wondering, yes, this is rather early for the recording to be taking place (scoring sessions for The Force Awakenstook place from August to October 2015). But, no, it doesn't mean the film will likely be moved up from its December release. The pressure on the companies who make Star Warsmerchandise is already huge with a film coming out every year. To change the schedule in such a way that cuts down on their time to make Episode VIIIproducts would be extremely detrimental to the bottom line. And it would be bad for fans too, as the quality and quantity of Star Wars products would be diminished.
Regardless, it is thrilling to know that sometime in the next month the music for Star Wars Episode VIII will be recorded.
Star Wars Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15th, 2017 and stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and John Boyega. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson.
