(L to R)John Boyega, Jesse Plemons & Ed Speleers.
By: Benjamin Hart

After an overabundance of news concerning both Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars, it seems star Wars Episode VII may once again take center stage soon! Today, Variety is reporting that Director J.J Abrams and his team are currently considering at least five actors for the lead role in Episode VII. Variety claims that their sources indicate that John Boyega(Attack The Block), Ed Speleers(Downtown Abby), Mathew James Thomas, Ray Fisher and previously rumored Jesse Plemons(Breaking Bad). Variety adds that "these actors have moved to the top of the list in recent weeks", though some sources say the selection process is still ongoing. The also claim that the part is said to be that of a Jedi Apprentice.

So, how does this work with previous rumors we've heard, which claimed Han, Luke and leia would the lead characters? Could this "Jedi Apprentice" be a student of Luke Skywalker, or perhaps his son or nehpew? Let us know what YOU think in the comments below, or on Facebook and Twitter!

Dave Filoni Talks "Yoda Arc" with StarWars.com

By: Dominic Jones

Lucasfilm’s senior content writer Dan Brooks posted a portion of his interview with Star Wars: The Clone Wars Supervising Director Dave Filoni which was cut from the original postings of the interview because he felt it contained too many elements that were spoilers for the (at the time) unaired Yoda Arc.  Now that the Yoda Arc and the rest of Season 6 is available on Netflix, this portion of the interview is fair game!

In the interview Filoni discusses the differences between Yoda in the Prequels and Yoda in the Originals,
"What you get out of this story arc is that you understand, finally, that Yoda in the Clone Wars period is not at all the same person that he is in The Empire Strikes Back. People, I think, have always wondered, “Why [in The Clone Wars] isn’t he like he was in Empire? He’s not as odd, and he’s not as quizzical. Why is he so much more serious in the Clone War and where’s the fun little Yoda who was wise?” Well, he’s not there yet, you see. The story that we tell goes a very long way toward explaining who Yoda is prior to the Clone War and who he becomes after the Clone War."

"Downton" Stars Ditching the Castle for the Falcon?

Last November, Episode VII director J.J. Abrams visited the set of Downton Abbey. Was he there as a fan or on confidential Star Wars business?

The show, which has won two Golden Globes since it's premiere in 2010 , revolves around the Crowley family and their servants. "It’s absolute soap opera done triple-A plus. The characters go places you never expect.." Abrams praised about the British drama.

Lesley Nicol, the sixty year old actress who plays a bossy yet benevolent cook on the show, expressed that "...[Abrams] loves the show, and he checked a few of [the Downton actors] to star in the film."

Downton's
Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery, photoshopped  in Star Wars garb above, may be among the actors considered for roles in the next Star Wars trilogy, and could soon be seen leaving Downton's Highclere Castle set for a seat in the Falcon.

This news comes just after Variety reported that Ed Speleers, also a Downton Abby star, is being considered by Abrams for the lead role in Episode VII.

I can't tell you how happy I am to present you with this week's artist in my next installment of DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER. Justin Cook, who is also known in the Yakface Forums as Yak_Chewie is by far one of the most talented and creative customizers out there today. Chewie is an administrator over at Yakface Forums and he oversees the custom creations part of the forum where I first received the foundation for my own customizing education.

Anyone who's looking for inspiration to build a custom action figure or needs a kitbashing recipe to follow need not to look any further, Chewie has more recipes than a cookbook.

His great body of work landed him the lead off spot on the Customs for the Kid"Customs I Wish I Owned" archive page.  He was the first artist that I ever featured on the Customs for the Kid blog.  Chewie has made over a hundred action figures over the years and they are all figures I'd love to have in our Star Wars custom action figure collectionChewie was my most dominant influence as a customizer when I first started to make action figures of my own.  Chewie's work opened up my imagination and helped me realize that as a customizer, I now had the opportunity to create my own Star Wars stories with Star Wars characters of my own invention.  If you watch the video we posted of his customs you'll immediately see that his body of work is something special.

Chewie is also the creator of "The Enloe Chronicles" photonovel series which is probably known to be one of the most famous Star Wars photonovels ever made.  The Enloe Trials photonovel series is what's driving Chewie to customize more than anything else. The latest chapter in his most recent story is just another awesome Star Wars adventure where a group of heroes race to locate an ancient Sith artifact before it falls into the hands of The Emperor.

This week I'm going to present Chewie's custom action figures the way he does in the forums.  Complete with their recipes so you can all have the opportunity to try and recreate them if you so wish.

Clone Wars Review: "Order 66" Arc

$
0
0

By: Lillian Skye

Much like the show's namesake, the Clones have been an integral part of the series, and the episodes that have delved into the origins of the Clone Troopers have long intrigued fans. While the Expanded Universe and A New Hope have boasted of an "Imperial Academy," where men trained to become pilots and soldiers for the Empire,  when the Republic fell, the Clones evidently evolved into the first Stormtroopers. Tasked with keeping the subordinates of the galaxy in their proper place, Stormtroopers appeared to be identical. Besides rank and number, there was no way to distinguish one from the other.

Clone Wars had the opportunity to broaden our knowledge of the men clad in white armor, and The Star Wars: The Clone Wars crew has noted that they wanted to not only individualize each Clone trooper, but that they have desired to explore the Clones' origins. Clone Wars episodes such as "The Deserter,""Clone Cadets,""ARC Troopers," and the entire Umbara arc have not only dissected the inner workings of a Clone, but have peered into how Clones make decisions that oftentimes deviate from instruction commanded by superiors. "Rookies," was one of the first episodes to truly introduce us to who the Clones were as individuals, and introduced us to the rookie CT-5555 who preferred to be called Fives. Fives was a part of Domino Squadron and was stationed to a listening post, which was located on one of the Rishi moons. Still "shinies," the squad proved themselves when they fended off droids with Captain Rex and Commander Cody. Although the squad lost a valued member of their team during the droid attack on the post, Fives was among the Clones that was honored for their heroism and dedication to their duty.

Now no longer a rookie but an ARC Trooper and an experienced fighter, Fives plays a pivotal role alongside his fellow Clone brother Tup in The Lost Missions'"Order 66" arc, which explores the repercussions that the choices of a single Clone can have on the entire Republic.

Fans were first introduced to Tup in the Umbara arc. Tup was among the men that knew about Fives' plan to blow up the enemy supply ship, but kept quiet about it until pressured into telling the Jedi General so as not to avoid being caught lying by omission. Fives cheated death when he was court marshaled by Krell, only to be spared by Tup and his Clone brothers who knew that Fives had done his duty. Later in the arc, after learning that Krell had pitted his Troopers to attack their own kind, Tup devised the plan to lure Krell close to a vixus, a sarlaac-esk creature that caught unsuspecting prey with it's vine-like tentacles.

Although Fives was nearly executed by Tup in the Umbara arc, in the "Order 66" arc, he claims that Tup is one of his best friends, standing beside him when all the odds were against his Clone brother.

What was meant to be a routine battle in the space station that lingered above the planet of Ringo Vinda went awry when a Clone made a decision that altered the course of the attack. It appeared to be just a headache, a lingering buzz in the mind of a Trooper that was distracting him from staying focused on the mission. Tup showing early signs of being unwell should have been a huge warning for Fives. Didn't Tup's glare and the gruff way he said, "Jedi!" set off an internal alarm that something wasn't quite right? Although Tup shrugged it aside and seemingly dismissed the feelings as jitters, something wasn't quite right with him. He knew it, and so did his Clone brother Fives. Pulling his 'bucket' down over his head, Tup gripped his blaster, and reminded Fives that they "don't want to get left behind" before rejoining the other men and Jedi, an unfortunate mistake.

Twin Jedi Masters were introduced this arc--sisters named Tiplee and Tiplar. While their species and origins were not revealed in the arc, according to StarWars.com, their designs were "based on concept design for a female Sith Lord that Iain McCaig developed for Episode II that ultimately was not used." What was unique about the fraternal twin Jedi was the aquatic-like movements of their head tendrils, and the fact that their movements consistently flowed like they were submerged underwater. For this reason, many could confuse the green-skinned Tiplee for a "female Kit Fisto."

Throughout the battle in the space station, Tup grew agitated, succumbing to what others began calling a "mental illness." His 'sickened' state brought him to do the unthinkable: murder. Shooting a blaster bolt through Jedi Master Tiplar at point blank range, Tup was restrained and taken in for questioning. When he struggled to remember the events and threatened Tiplee, Tup was shipped back to his "home world" to be examined by the Kaminoans--a second big mistake.

This arc also gave fans more of an insight into the natives of Kamino. Much different than the passive, gentle beings that were revealed to fans through the characters Taun We and Lama Su in 2002's Attack of the Clones, the Kaminoans of "The Unknown,""Conspiracy,""Fugitive," and "Orders," are secretive, rigid, and ruthless. Throughout the arc, we learn that not only were the Kaminoans instructed to keep secrets from the Jedi, but that they play a pivotal roll in a larger Separatist plot. When the Kaminoans failed to make progress in the Clones' favor, Fives decided to talk AZI-3, a medical droid that provided comedic relief throughout the arc, to proceed with a brain scan. The viewers learn that Tup's condition was indeed accelerated, and that his chip had 'rotted' and was a tumor. The unlikely duo disobey direct orders and create a distraction to carry out a biopsy on Tup before he can be 'terminated' by Nala Se.

Nala Se, the principal engineer behind the clone army, guards secrets under the instruction of Dooku.  Secrets that will eventually contribute to the downfall of the Republic. What was interesting to learn this arc was that Dooku was well aware and working closely with Darth Sidious regarding the biological warfare and exploitation of the Grand Army of the Republic.

The Clone Wars put an interesting twist on Order 66: Every Clone has a chip in their brain that can force them into action against their will, as Fives discovers with the help of droid AZI-3. While Nala Se swears that the chip was implanted to make Clones docile and receptive to Orders, the chip is in fact linked to Order 66, a command that when given would brainwash a Clone into believing that the Jedi is the true enemy.

It turns out that Lama Su, the Prime Minister of Kamino, knew about the "inhibitor chip" the entire time. This chip links back to what Lama Su discussed with Obi-Wan Kenobi in Attack of the Clones: "We modified their genetic structure to make them less independent than the original host."Less independent, or made responsive to any and all preprogrammed orders, including the ability to murder leaders on command?

At this point of the arc, I was really starting to get frustrated with Shaak Ti. While Shaak Ti is a strong and gentle character by nature in Star Wars, throughout this entire arc I couldn't help but question whythe Clone Wars writers chose Shaak Ti to accompany Tup to Kamino. Yes, she had history with the Clones in previous episodes, but it seems like she was chosen because the writers wanted her to take a passive stance on the situation. I feel that if the writers had replaced Shaak Ti with Anakin, Obi-Wan, or Yoda, that events would have unfolded differently, that the Kaminoans would have had a more difficult time covering up the Separatist plot, and that Dooku and Sidious would have had to divulge a new way to exploit the Grand Army of the Republic. If Skywalker was involved, he would not have let Nala Se have all of the say in Tup's examination. Instead, he would have taken action to discover the Kaminoan's true intentions.

After the tumor was removed from Tup, the Clone started ranting about "the mission" and the nightmares, stating that he was finally free from all of the nightmares, the one that "all of the Clones have" before dying. Fives was immediately arrested for his actions and was sentenced to get his memory erased to be placed on sanitation detail.

While the Jedi believe that Tup may have been compromised during a mission that proceeded the event and that the Separatists may be using the Clones to gain the upper hand in the war, Fives breaks free and decides to take matters into his own hands and after further investigation into the chip, he learns that there may be a larger conspiracy and decides to have his own chip removed. After being confronted by Nala Se and Shaak Ti, Fives presents the evidence that he has gathered, from the inhibitor chips to the tumors, and believes that he needs to take them back to Coruscant. Shaak Ti agrees that Palpatine did request everything linked to Tup's case be sent to Coruscant, and the arrangements were made.

Fives' next move, requesting an audience with Chancellor Palpatine, was a fatal move for the ARC Trooper. Everything had to work according to Sidious' master plan to orchestrate and eventually execute Order 66, right down to eliminating anything that was not a part of the Sith's original equation. As expected, Palpatine twisted Fives' words and set him up to attack the 'defenseless old man,' and as Fives attempted to escape the Chancellor's chambers, Clones were already armed and in pursuit.

The Chancellor had a lot of dialogue in these episodes and with the regrettable passing of Palpatine's previous voice actor, Ian Abercrombie, actor Tim Curry was hired to step into Sidious' shoes. Tim Curry is a phenomenal actor, with experience in a wide range of projects from Annie and The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Ben 10: Omniverse and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron. However, throughout Palpatine's scenes, the only character that I could hear talking was Nigel Thornberry, a TV character that I have not seen, heard, or even thought about since my elementary school days. Curry still accurately portrayed Sidious as the sinister Sith Lord that Abercrombie voiced,  but Thornberry's "smashing!" lingered in my mind.

At this point in the arc, if you weren't rooting for Fives, who were you rooting for? Fives risked his life, his status as an ARC Trooper in the 501st, and his reputable reputation to bring a twisted conspiracy to light. After chatting with a colorful cab driver who retorted "Eh, your mother's a droid!" when the Clone didn't pay for his ride, Fives rendezvoused with a fellow 501st member in the 'freshers of 79's, Coruscant's resident Clone bar.

Not only was 79's our first look at 'Freshers in the Clone Wars universe, but it was a firsthand look at Clones off duty and off of the battlefield. Who knew that Clones had leisure time to spend at a bar? Besides, isn't ten years old below the legal drinking age on Coruscant?   From dancing Twi'lek women and shots to Podraces being flashed up on large holoscreens (but still no Ben Quadinaros!), 79's was definitely a behind the scenes peek into a Clone's world.

As Clones from all different ranks and battalions drank to the Republic and the "212th," Fives slipped out of the bar as shock troopers followed his trail. When Fives lured Rex and Anakin Skywalker to a wear house to convince them of the Kaminoan conspiracy, he had nothing but good intentions. Fives' quest for truth and clarity did not end well for the soldier, and picking up his blaster to resist arrest from his Clone brothers was his final mistake. Gunned down by his own kind, Fives collapsed onto the floor of the wearhouse just before Rex reached him. Cradling the dying Trooper in his arms as he called for a medic, Rex tried coax Fives into holding onto life, but they both knew that he was dying.

Fives died in the arms of his commander in what was one of the most emotional scenes in Clone Wars history. As Fives choked on his own words exerting that all he wanted to do was his duty, he reiterated what Tup had said about finally finding freedom. As his Clone brothers who had shot him down following their own orders gathered around, Fives slipped away.

Clone Wars has been recognized for the morals that accompany and almost summarize each individual episode, and TheLost Missions did not disappoint. From "the truth about yourself is always the hardest to accept," to "the popular belief isn't always the correct one," the arc was as thought provoking as it was heart wrenching.

What has come to be called the "Order 66" arc, is more of an arc that revolves around the events of a Clone who was desperately trying to do his duty to the Republic, only to be silenced for trying to uncover the truth. From the space station above Ringo Vinda to Kamino and then Coruscant, Fives was a loyal brother to Tup and to the Republic, even his dying breath was spent trying to prove that the conspiracy was bigger than anyone would believe. What if Fives had never died? Maybe he could have convinced Rex, if no one else, of the chips' existence and he may have spent the rest of his days in a Republic cell. Could Order 66 have been prevented if Fives could have convinced Skywalker that the Chancellor and the Kaminoians were involved in a Separatist conspiracy?

Although it was difficult watching Fives struggle for truth only to have the secret perish with him, I believe Fives made the right choice. Choosing to die with honor instead of living a lie, he fought to the death to expose a dastardly secret that would tear down the Republic from the inside. The "Order 66" arc demonstrated that the Clones were more than just a number that robotically followed instruction. The episodes proved that there were Clones who knew the truth about the Separatist plot protocol 66, Clones who would have rather died fighting for the Republic, their first mission, than murder their trusted Jedi generals. With his chip removed, Fives would have lived to see "protocol 66" executed and would have stood by as his brothers mercilessly cut down Jedi after Jedi following the 66th order that they were preprogrammed to obey, and he wouldn't have been able to do anything to stop it.

Fives being honored for his heroism in Season One's "Rookies"

Ronald D. Moore Talks Live Action Series

By: Dominic Jones

Here's something we haven't talked about in a while!  Remember the old Star Wars Live Action Series (that may or may not have been called Underworld) that was suppose to be the future of Star Wars?  Well screenwriter Ronald D. Moore certainly does!  Moore recently spoke with NBC about his time working on the series and had this to say,

"I did, for a bit of time, work on what was going to be a Star Wars live-action series. We’d go gather at Skywalker Ranch periodically, every couple of months, and break stories and write scripts for this proposed series that George was interested in. And George was in the ring with us every day. And it was a fascinating, amazing experience. There was George Lucas and we’d be arguing stories and there was a point where I found myself in an intense argument with George about what Darth Vader would or would not do, and part of my brain kind of went, ‘What the hell are you doing? Are you really going to argue with George Lucas about what Darth Vader would do?"

Moore references Darth Vader in his comments.  Does this mean Vader would have played a role in the series?  Comments from Rick McCallum and George Lucas seemed to have suggested otherwise at the time, but we know how much Lucas loves misdirection.

While it doesn't seem like the show as it was planned back then will be making it to our screens anytime soon, Lucasfilm owns the 50 scripts that were written for the series. and elements from the series may show up in Rebels.  That's a definite possibility since it was revealed at Celebration Europe this summer that elements from the series were hinted at going as far back as Season Two of The Clone Wars.

Watch the video of Ronald D. Moore discussing his time on Star Wars and his new projects below,

Rumor: Casting On-Going For Live Action Star Wars Series

By: Dominic Jones

We all know that casting is currently going on for 2015's Star Wars Episode VII, but is casting going on for other Star Wars projects happening as well?  Cinelinx is reporting that Disney is currently casting for Star Wars live action television projects, specifically TV Specials and miniseries!

According to Cinelix,
"While we've heard rumblings previously about a live-action show, or TV specials finally coming to fruition under Disney's banner, nothing else has really come of it.  Today, however, we've heard that Disney is already holding auditions for as yet unannounced Star Wars TV specials and even a mini-series!

I know it's not often that we post information from our own sources concerning rumors and what not (though we were spot on when it came to the first Godzilla trailer), but I felt this was too good to not share with you guys.  According to my source, who I can't name, Disney's casting auditions for Star Wars haven't just been limited to the upcoming film,Episode VII.  Rather, they were told the people holding the auditions were casting for roles in as yet unannounced television projects including 'specials and miniseries'"

The idea of TV specials was brought up several months back when JediNews got hold of a Disney promotional brochure which stated that three "Darth Vader TV Specials" were slated for release in Spring/Summer 2014.  It seems unlikely to me that a live action Star Wars special could be ready for Spring/Summer of this year, though anything is possible.  There's also the possibility the projects could have been pushed back.

Also the possibility of a miniseries is intriguing.  Given Marvel's (another part of Disney) recent deal the produce five miniseries for Netflix over the next few years and the success of The Clone Wars Season 6 on Netlfix, a Netflix miniseries could be real possibility.  There have already been rumors about a Star Wars miniseries coming to Netflix.  But there are other possibilities, ABC President Paul Lee has stated in the past that he wants a Star Wars show on ABC.  A miniseries would be a great way to test the waters to see if live action Star Wars on telesvision.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney

While Rancho Obi-Wan's eBay"Obi-Than" raised over $15,500, their was only one problem: eBay closed down the auction for the iconic Dave Filoni hat! Apparently, this is the second time that eBay closed down the Ranch's auction for the iconic “Dave Filoni Clone Wars Hat,” which is autographed by Dave Filoni, Sam Witwer, Tom Kane, and Matt Lanter.

The highest bid for the hat was $860, but, due to the large percentage of people who bid at the last minute in an attempt to win an item, Rancho Obi-Wan has decided to have it's own auction for the hat via e-mail.

Here are the new rules, according to the Rancho Obi-Wan website:

If you’re interested in entering the auction—remember, there’s a current top bid of $860 on the table—please send your email address and the subject line “Filoni Hat Auction” to hat@ranchoobiwan.org. Deadline for getting on the list of bidders is 9 PM Pacific Daylight Time Saturday night.
On Sunday night, the auction will be open from 6:30 PM to 7 PM Pacific Daylight time. That is when to submit any bids topping $860. At 7 PM we will email ALL active bidders with the current high bid. You will have five minutes to enter a higher bid. This will continue, if necessary, until a five-minute period passes without any new bids. We will then let all bidders know that bidding has ceased and inform the winner. Payment is accepted through PayPal only (info@ranchoobiwan.org) and must be paid within 24 hours.

If your life is going to be absolutely meaningless without Filoni's hat, enter the email auction before 9 PM Pacific on Saturday. Not only does the money the Obi-Than receives go toward maintenance of the Ranch, but you will have an epic hat to wear to the next Star Wars Celebration.

CNET writer and fan community legend Bonnie Burton revealed the cover for Ian Doescher's upcoming book William Skaespeare's Star Wars: The Jedi Doth Return.  The cover features Jabba the Hutt drawn to looked like a Shakespearean character.  The book is slate for a release on July 1st, 2014.  Check out the cover bellow,

The book is the third in the William Shakespeare's Star Wars series, following last year's Verily A New Hope, and this year's The Empire Striketh Back.  The series re-writes the Star Wars movies as if they were play by William Shakespeare (and, in this fans opinion, are hilarious!)

The Latino Review strikes back with another casting rumor! Today they are reporting that Lupita Nyong’o, who just won an Oscar for her performance in 12 Years A Slave, is "So close" to being cast in Star Wars Episode VII. Latino Review's Kellvin Chavez writes:

We can report that there’s a recent Oscar winner who has been reading for a part for over the past month and she’s extremely close to signing onto the movie: 12 Years A Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o.

The part Nyong’o has been reading for a is a major female role and doesn’t seem to be tied into the family lines from Episodes 4-6.

Calls were made to Lupita’s reps and they responded, “We’re not allowed to talk about that.”

From what I heard, Lupita might be going up for a a sith!

A Female villain in Episode VII would be a very interesting change from what has come before, and one that I think fans would be pleased to see. Her Oscar win clearly illustrates her talent, she would be a fine addition to the Episode VII cast. But, as always, nothing is official until Lucasfilm says so.

Clone Wars Review: The 'Clovis' Arc

By: Ciaran Duggan

Wow! I am surprised and speechless after my latest watch of the Clone Wars Bonus Content. The arc which has left me in this way is the ‘Clovis Arc’. I am left speechless because of the major themes touched on in this arc that have seriously altered my perception of the Star Wars Saga. That is as great a compliment as I can ever give to the Clone Wars team. My initial thoughts of the arc (prior to viewing) were fairly ambivalent. I was looking forward to seeing new Clone Wars, however this particular arc did not strike me to be as interesting as the Order 66 and Yoda arcs. My perception completely altered after viewing this arc and I actually preferred this arc to the (much anticipated and fantastic) Order 66 arc.

To begin with, a brief synopsis of the arc is required. Padme Amidala travels to the planet Scipio, home to the Banking Clan in an attempt to fund a financial mercy mission. On her arrival, she is reunited with her former friend, Rush Clovis, who calls upon Padme to help him uncover the corruption hidden in the Banking Clan vaults. Bounty hunter, Embo, hunts the senators down in order to collect the hidden data, however Padme and Clovis manage to escape Scipio (with the help of Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker) and fly back to Coruscant. Back on Corusant, Clovis manages to strikes a deal with Count Dooku which puts him at the head of the Banking Clan. However, his deal with the Separatists backfires and instead Clovis brings war to the banking world of Scipio.

The synopsis delineates the plot of the arc, but it does not deeply discuss the high number of diverse themes which are explored in this arc; of which I will focus on the primary three themes. The arc considers the relationship of Anakin and Padme and utilizes Clovis as the major spanner in the works of their marriage. The orchestration of the evolution of Palpatine to ascertaining control of the banks is also delineated in this arc, as the methods used by Palpatine to accumulate this new power were fundamentally made vivid. Finally, the significance of the Banking Clan are examined in depth; their role in the war clearly defined in this arc. The action, animation and music in this arc were further elements which contributed to the arc’s outstanding results and will later be considered.

The Banking Clan have been a faction in the Star Wars Universe that are persistently alluded to, yet at the same time are one of the most ambiguous groups in the Star Wars Universe. This arc, however, puts right a number of these ambiguities for the audience. The Banking Clan’s homeworld of Scipio is vividly portrayed in this arc and subsequently we learn more about the Banking Clan’s role in the war. They are a neutral party which loans out money to both the Republic and Separatists and are therefore impartial to both sides; similar sentiments are echoed with the Trade Federation. The role of the Banking Clan in this war is therefore delineated effectively in the arc and it makes the overarching theme and plot of this Clovis arc all the more clearer and therefore fundamentally explains the motivations behind the conspiratorial plot of the Darth Sidious and Tyranus in this arc.

The conspiratorial plot of the Sith is a major element which adds to the significance of this arc in the overarching Clone Wars storyline through explaining the facilitation of transforming the former democratic Republic into an oligarchical Galactic Empire. To me, the role of the Sith in this arc resonated closely with their role in Episode One; particularly illustrated through Count Dooku’s dealings with Rush Clovis and Darth Sidious communicating via hologram with Embo and Nix Card. Darth Sidious certainly played the deceptive and malevolent villain well in this arc and this was achieved notably through the return of the voice of Ian Abercrombie as Darth Sidious; a most welcome return. Sidious played a prominent role in this arc as Sidious (and Palpatine); with the Sith Lord manipulating events to his advantage once again and by the end of this arc, Sidious emerges as the master of the banks, along with pretty much everything else in the galaxy. It was also refreshing to view Dooku outside of hologram form, as he was actively involved in transferring control from the Muuns to his master and subsequently Dooku’s own malevolent stature was delineated effectively in this arc, namely through forcing Padme to shoot one of the Separatist senators. The direct involvement of the Sith certainly elevated the stakes of this arc and is a prominent reason for why I so enjoyed this arc.

In addition, the audience’s perception of Anakin and Padme’s relationship fundamentally shifted in this arc, as major problems in their marriage emerge through the increasingly problematic interactions between Padme and her old friend, Rush Clovis. Rush Clovis and Padme are reunited in the episode – An Old Friend – and it was very interesting to view the evolution of their attitudes towards one another from their last encounter in the season two episode – Senate Spy. Padme shows clear aversion towards Clovis and threatens to shoot him when he sneaks into her room. The transformation of this relationship during the arc is most intriguing and it is clear that the chemistry from their past relationship was still alive between the two characters, fundamentally illustrated with their talk in Padme’s room on Clovis’ past relations with the Muuns of Scipio. This would be a most heartening love story were it not for the fact that Padme was still wife to Anakin Skywalker.

The relationship between Anakin and Padme takes a rocky turn in this arc with Anakin clearly envious of the interaction between Padme and Clovis and ultimately suspicious of Clovis’ intentions during Padme and Clovis’ collaboration on providing evidence for the Banking Clan’s corruption. The animosity between Anakin and Clovis is no doubt clear from their inaugural moments on screen when they first communicate with each other in Clovis’ apartment with Clovis refusing to give the data “to some pilot” and Anakin forcing Clovis to give the data to him. The hostility between the two characters reaches its apogee in the mid-point of this arc when Anakin and Clovis physically fight each other after Anakin saw Clovis attempt to kiss Padme.  The fight was awesome and certainly Anakin’s turn to the dark side was evident through his force choking of Clovis in Padme’s apartment and in front of Padme. His turn can be understood clearer from the delineation of the rocky relationship between Padme and Anakin in this arc.

Furthermore, it becomes ever clearer to the audience that Obi Wan is aware of the relationship between Padme and Anakin (whether Yoda does is more ambiguous); as illustrated through Obi Wan’s talk with Anakin in his room as Obi Wan states he can relate through the relationship Obi Wan had with Satine (who is still alive as these events take prior to the Maul arc of late season five) and in my opinion this conveys that Obi Wan is trying to support Anakin through his knowledge that Anakin is married to Padme or certainly more than just friends. Therefore these themes espouses the notion that this arc is grandiose for substantially adding new and vital information to the Star Wars Saga.

The action elements were also an awesome element of this arc and whilst they were few and far between, they certainly were great action set pieces. The animation elevated the impressive stature of this arc also, fundamentally conveyed in the fantastic animation of the Embo chase scene and the Scipio battle in the final.

Overall, I believe that this arc should rank as a fascinating and intriguing arc and certainly the best heavily politicized arc that has been aired by the Clone Wars. Season three episodes – Corruption (episode five), The Academy (episode six) and Pursuit of Peace (episode eleven) – just cannot match the brilliant writing and action of this arc, which was needed to make the political side of the arc much more interesting. The involvement of key players, such as the Sith Lords, Anakin and Padme were all essential elements which augmented the interest of this arc to me because the stakes had been raised much higher. I am therefore going to rate this arc: 9/10

By: Lillian Skye

He is Disney's new hope, and he's refusing Uncle Owen's offer to stay on for one more season to spend the weekend of June 6, 2014 at Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida.  For the first time in Star Wars Weekends history, Luke Skywalker himself will be attending the galactic interactive event.

Actor Mark Hamill has never made an appearance at Disney's fan favorite event, and will be the first of the Original Trilogy's "big three" to be a celebrity guest.

According to the official Disney Parks blog, "Hamill will be one of the celebrity guests for Weekend IV, June 6-8, 2014. Fans can see him in the daily “Legends of the Force” Star Wars-themed motorcade and in a featured talk show. More details about the event have been placed into the memory systems of an R2-unit and we’ll soon reveal them, but we wanted to share this Force-filled news with you today."

The blog also noted that fans who wish to receive a pass to visit Mark Hamill should arrive early. Fans already start lining up before sunrise, and this year will not be any different. The Force will be with the lucky Star Wars fans who have the opportunity to meet Hamill himself
