The March 2nd season one premiere of Star Wars Rebels is rapidly approaching and there is much speculation about what might happen and who might appear.  The team over at Yak Face spotted some very intriguing details about the finale in the next issue of Star Wars Insider Magazine.  While this doesn't reveal too much about what will happen in the finale, it does reveal that certain characters are returning.  So if you don't want to know anything about the Rebels Season One finale, stop reading now!  This is you official SPOILER ALERT!

Yak Face tweeted out this information,
No real surprises there.  We've been assuming for a while that Fulcrum would be revealed in the finale.  Also, we've seen so much build up over this season with the rise of our Rebels on Lothal, it makes a lot of sense that some of the major players from both sides (Bail and Fulcrum for the Rebels, Vader and Tarkin for the Empire) would need to get involved.   All signs point to finale being a game changing affair.

The Star Wars Rebels season one final "Fire Across the Galaxy" airs Monday March 2nd on Disney XD.

It's been all but confirmed that actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) will star in the upcoming 2016 Star Wars Stand Alone Film directed by Gareth Edwards.  The actress was asked about Star Wars by MTV's Josh Horowitz on the Red Carpet at last night's Academy Awards.  Jones dodged the question saying, "I can’t talk about it, I’ll lose my life!" in reference to Lucasfilm's secrecy about the upcoming film.

Horowitz also caught up with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens star Lupita Nyong'o on the red carpet and asked her about working in Star Wars, to which she replied, "Being part of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, I’m sure will change my life even more."

You can watch both Jones and Nyong'o respond to questions about Star Wars in the video below,

The first stand alone film will be released on December 16th, 2016 and is directed by Gareth Edwards.

Rumor: Flashback Scenes in 'The Force Awakens'

By: Dominic Jones

The rumor of flashbacks being used in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is one that has been around since pretty much day one.  It has been divisive as flashbacks have never been used in a Star Wars film before (though they were used once on The Clone Wars).  But the evidence is starting to pile up that yes, they will be used in the film.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have obtained some documents via their sources that go into great detail about what the flashback scenes will entail.  As usual, there is a chance this may not be true, so if you are trying to avoid all spoilers, then stop reading now.  This is your official SPOILER ALERT!

According to MakingStarWars.net here's how the flashback scenes will play out,

The sequences below take place in Rose’s pub. Here is the list of the sequences in order:
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub – There is a secret underground chamber and Rose begins her tale to Han, Rey, and Finn. They hold hands.
  • Flashback: Interior Night at Academy – Dead bodies are on the ground. Luke turns up.
  • Flashback: Exterior Dusk at the Academy – It is noted it is peaceful now. Artoo-Detoo is saddened as his master departs.
  • Flashback: Exterior Day at the Savannah – A hand that takes the sword at the start of the film is revealed to be Naka’s hand.
  • Flashback: Exterior on the Savannah – A peasant’s hovel where the peasant drops the sword, starts a fire, panics and then returns.
  • Flashback: Exterior Desert – Local trader is seen leaving. (I believe it then cuts to Finn and Rey’s faces as the story unfolds).
  • Flashback: Exterior Day Desert – Local trader makes a sale to a wealthy man.
  • Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being use by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.
  • Flashback: Exterior Night: the last man is down and Kylo Renn approaches Rey!
  • Flashback: THE SEVEN are looting and we see Rose in the foreground taking “the object.”
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub: In the underground chamber, Rose presents the saber and Rey is revolted by it while Finn is attracted to it.
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub: Rey moves past aliens in an uproar as she leaves the establishment.
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub: Courtyard: Rey runs away from the castle.
  • Exterior Day: Woods near Roses’s pub Rey runs into the woods.
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub: Rose now knows why the saber “came to her.”
  • Exterior Day: Woods near Roses’s pub BB-8 finds Rey but suddenly the villains are overhead.
  • Interior Day Roses’s Pub: In the corridors underneath the pub they notice Rey and BB-8 are missing as massive shaking begins.
  • Exterior Roses’ Pub Plate Shot: From Rey’s point of view we see the destruction of the Castle.
  • Exterior Day Rose’s Pub – From Rey’s Point of view we see Rose’s pub is chaotic.
  • Exterior Day Woods Near Rose’s Pub – From Rey’s perspective we see Rose’s Pub ruined. Kylo Ren arrives with Stormtroopers in tow.
  • Note: This pertains: “Interior Day: Roses’ Pub hallways beneath the pub, Rose “users her special skills” to defeat Stormtroopers.
It sounds to me like this will be looks of quick flashback scenes, without ever going too deep into one scene or another.  Jason at MSW suggests that the academy referenced in the first few flashbacks is a Jedi Academy Luke Skywalker opened but he disappeared after all his students were massacred.  Rose is believed to be the code name for Lupita Nyong'o's character.  As for what "THE SEVEN" and "THE CLAN" are, is still somewhat of a mystery.   It is also expected that there will be voice over in this scene to lend context to the flashbacks.

Also, Jason reiterates that this does still mostly line up with the rumor from last week which stated that Luke Skywalker will only appear at the end of the film, as his only other appearance will be in flashback form.  Also, nowhere in this is there any mention of Darth Vader meeting with an Inquisitor.  This doesn't mean that flashback won't happen, it just may not be part of this particular sequence of flashbacks.

I've been ok with the idea of flashbacks in Episode VII for a while now, and this sounds like it will be a hugely important scene that will lay the groundwork for the rest of the film and sequel trilogy.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Star Wars References in 87th Academy Awards Opening Song

The 87th Academy Awards featured more Star Wars references than any previous Oscar show of recent memory (or at least since I started watching).  Whether it was presenters from Star Wars projects past present and future, like Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I), David Oyelowo (Agent Kallus on Star Wars Rebels), and Lupiata Nyong'o (Star Wars Episdoe VII: The Force Awakens), or John Williams getting a shout out during the nominees for Best Original Score, Star Wars was everywhere!  But the most references in the shortest amount of time definitely came during host Neil Patrick Harris' opening number where there were 4 Star Wars references in five and a half minutes.  This included, of course, dancing stormtroopers.  Check it out for yourself below,

A fun number with great Star Wars references, what more could you ask for?

JJ Abrams Talks Future 'The Force Awakens' Teasers

By: Dominic Jones

The first teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens captured the hearts and minds of fans around the globe, and fans are now wondering when they will get to see more.  Director JJ Abrams discussed this at the Oscar Wilde Awards recently and told reporters that there is still much more to be seen in previews and trailers they are just waiting for the right moment and to make sure it is of high enough quality to release it.

Abrams told the Irish Examiner
"There’s sort of an abundance of riches with the stuff we could put out so we’re just trying to make sure it’s as good as it could be before we put anything out. The disaster would be to race something out for the sake of making an impact and it being not as good as people deserve."

Abrams also reminded fans to be patient as there is still almost a year until the movie comes out.

The next preview is expected to be revealed at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this April where Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy will be opening the show with a can't miss panel on Thursday morning.  After that there are plenty of other opportunities for more teasers to be released, including San Diego Comic Con, D23 Expo, and New York Comic Con.  It's really set up for this summer to be huge for Star Wars fans.

This will be a day long remembered! It has just been revealed that one of the most iconic villains of all time will be returning in the flesh very soon on Star Wars Rebels! Darth Vader, who made a small holographic cameo in an the very first episode Spark Of Rebellion, has been confirmed to be making another appearance in the upcoming season finale episode Fire Across The Galaxy. Today an image of Vader in all his animated glory appeared online, which you can see above, along with a teaser for the episode, and you can watch that below:

Fire Across The Galaxy will air this Monday, March 2nd, on Disney XD! It's worth noting that the episode will not be available on Watch Disney XD prior to airing, so we'll all have to watch the episode together this time.

Update: It has come to our attention that the original preview for Fire Across The Galaxy was restricted in many countries and some fans were unable to watch it. Thanks to our friends at Rebels Report the above teaser has been replaced with a more universal version. Below we've also included two new videos, the first being another promo title "He's Alive" and the second is the Rebels Recon for the previous episode, Rebel Resolve, which features a clip from the upcoming episode near the end. Check them out below!

Cham & Hera Syndulla's Relationship Confirmed

By: Benjamin Hart

Ever since we were introduced to her early last year, Hera Syndulla has been one of the most intriguing characters to come out of Star Wars Rebels. Aside from being the fiery Twi'lek captain, pilot and "mother" of The Ghost, her last name has invoked a relationship with a previously established character in another animated series. Cham Syndulla appeared in two episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as general of the Twi'lek freedom fighters and fought alongside Jedi such as Mace Windu. The introduction of Hera was met with a great deal of speculation from fans wondering how the two characters were related. It was at 2014's New York Comic con where we got a definite answer to the question. At the Star Wars Books panel, Del Rey's Shelly Shapiro claimed that Cham was Hera's uncle, which you can hear at 15:20 in the video below:

Since then fans have accepted that info as fact, but a new revelation has revealed that Shelly Shapiro was mistaken. In the Rebels Recon from the newest Star Wars Rebels episode "Rebel Resolve", Pablo Hidalgo, of the Lucasfilm story group, answered a fan question about this very subject, and Pablo confirmed that Cham is in fact the father of Hera, not her uncle. You can hear Pablo's answer at 4:45 in the video:

Unsurprisingly the official Star Wars social media accounts were bombarded with questions about the apparent change. Some speculated that their relationship had been mentioned in the recent novel A New Dawn, but Lucasfilm confirmed that that was not the case:

So there you have it! Cham and Hera are officially father & daughter. So what will this mean for future stories? As Shelly Shapiro mentioned in the panel video, Cham Syndulla will be making an appearance in the upcoming novel Lords Of The Sith. And with season two of Rebels coming up later this year, it will be interesting to see how Hera and Cham's relationship will be explored.

Rumor: Robert Boulter to Play Young Luke Skywalker in 'The Force Awakens'

Warning:  This story may contain SPOILERS for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, read on at your own risk!

Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have picked up on a very interesting new rumor about Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.  They have heard from one their sources that actor Robert Boulter has been cast to play a young Luke Skywalker in flashback scenes in The Force Awakens.  They also suggest that Boulter will be playing Luke in scenes that take place in the time between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

This does line up with the rumors they posted recently about the flashbacks which would feature Luke in that time frame.  I will say that Boulter does have a good look for a young-but-older-than-he-was-when-we-last-saw-him Luke.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

StarWars.com has posted an exclusive preview of the audio book for the upcoming novel Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne.  The novel is a first person Luke Skywalker story set between Episodes IV and V.  The novel is Hearne's first novel in the Star Wars galaxy and hits shelves on March 3rd, 2015.

The novel's official description is,
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .

A thrilling new adventure set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, and—for the first time ever—written entirely from Luke Skywalker’s first-person point of view.

Luke Skywalker’s game-changing destruction of the Death Star has made him not only a hero of the Rebel Alliance but a valuable asset in the ongoing battle against the Empire. Though he’s a long way from mastering the power of the Force, there’s no denying his phenomenal skills as a pilot—and in the eyes of Rebel leaders Princess Leia Organa and Admiral Ackbar, there’s no one better qualified to carry out a daring rescue mission crucial to the Alliance cause.

A brilliant alien cryptographer renowned for her ability to breach even the most advanced communications systems is being detained by Imperial agents determined to exploit her exceptional talents for the Empire’s purposes. But the prospective spy’s sympathies lie with the Rebels, and she’s willing to join their effort in exchange for being reunited with her family. It’s an opportunity to gain a critical edge against the Empire that’s too precious to pass up. It’s also a job that demands the element of surprise. So Luke and the ever-resourceful droid R2-D2 swap their trusty X-wing fighter for a sleek space yacht piloted by brash recruit Nakari Kelen, daughter of a biotech mogul, who’s got a score of her own to settle with the Empire.

Challenged by ruthless Imperial bodyguards, death-dealing enemy battleships, merciless bounty hunters, and monstrous brain-eating parasites, Luke plunges head-on into a high-stakes espionage operation that will push his abilities as a Rebel fighter and would-be Jedi to the limit. If ever he needed the wisdom of Obi-Wan Kenobi to shepherd him through danger, it’s now. But Luke will have to rely on himself, his friends, and his own burgeoning relationship with the Force to survive.

If we piece together all the rumors about Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens one thing seems abundantly clear, the Millennium Falcon plays a huge role in the film.  Some of the earliest rumors were about a life size Falcon being built for the film, a rumor that was confirmed by Kevin Smith following his visit to the set.  Since then we've seen the Falcon on location and heard about every celebrity who got a chance to visit it.  The main question that arises from it is where will the Falcon be traveling to and from in the film?  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have pieced together a list of all the places the Falcon will visit, based on information from their sources as well as set photos.  Now, the list is made up of real world shooting locations and code names so it's not the most spoiler-y rumor we've run, but if you are trying to avoid all The Force Awakens spoilers, then stop reading now.  This is your official SPOILER ALERT!

Mary Franklin Leaving Lucasfilm, Joining Reed Pop

By: Dominic Jones

Anyone who's been to a Star Wars Celebration knows just how fantastic they are.  This is due in large part to the efforts of one woman, Mary Franklin.  Mary, who joined Lucasfilm in 2001, is leaving Lucasfilm and going to work for Reed Pop, who she has been working with on the last several Celebrations (including the upcoming Celebration Anaheim happening this April 16th-19th).

Former Head of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm and owner of Rancho Obi-Wan, Steve Sansweet broke the news on his Facebook Page, posting,
"Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to my good friend Mary Franklin as she moves on from Lucasfilm and goes to work on the east coast for Reed Pop, which runs Star Wars Celebration under contract--so she still will be intimately involved with the event while working on Reed's international pop culture conventions.

I am so proud of the fact that I hired Mary in 2001 and that she far exceeded everyone's expectations from the first day--and remains a passionate Star Wars fan. From cattle herding, penguin wrangling, weight lifting, commercial fishing, and public relations to director of events and fan relations at Lucasfilm, it's not a cliche to say she's done it all!"

On behalf of everyone here at The Star Wars Underworld, I would like to thank Mary for her tireless efforts working Star Wars Celebrations past and future and wish her the best of luck in her new job at Reed Pop!

Oscar Isaac Claims to be "In the Dark" About 'The Force Awakens' Plot

By: Dominic Jones

Oscar Isaac has mastered the art of answering questions about his role of Poe Dameron in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens without ever actually giving anything away.  Recently, however, he made a very interesting remark about what the process of working on The Force Awakens is actually like.  When asked if he knew what the plot of The Force Awakens was by Time Out Dubai, Isaac said,

"No. I’m just as in the dark as everyone else as to how it will all come together. But I do know it will come together beautifully. [Director] J.J. Abrams has so much passion and love for the story. I can’t wait to see more of it. That trailer was incredible. Just like the rest of the world I was floored by it.

"

In the dark?  That, to me, seems like an odd comment for him to make.  We saw him in the famous cast photo of the script read through and the latest rumors suggest that he is one of the main stars of the new film.  So how can he be in the dark about it?  There's always the possibility that the rumors we've been hearing and reporting for months now are wrong and Isaac only has a small role.  Or perhaps Isaac knows the general thrust of the film, but is in the dark about some of the bigger surprises in store (two recent rumorsjump to mind).  Regardless, I found this to be an odd comment, or at least choice of words, from Isaac.  Still odd statements from the cast are still better than silence!

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015.

Rumor: 'The Force Awakens' Scene Description

By: Dominic Jones

The puzzle that is Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens plot rumors is starting to really take shape.  We think we know how it begins and we think we know how it ends, and now it seems the middle is starting to take shape as well.  Our friends over at MakingStarWars.net have posted a description of a sequence from The Force Awakens, that features two of our new heroes interacting with two of our old heroes.  Now, as usual, there is a chance this may not be true but if you trying to avoid all The Force Awakens spoilers stop reading now!  This is your official SPOILER ALERT!

-----
------
-------
--------
---------
----------
According to Jason Ward at Making Star Wars this sequence takes place after the opening action sequence involving Poe and Finn breaking out an Imperial brig with the help of Rey.  Here's how they say this sequence will play out,
Some time after they escape the brig, Poe goes his own way and Finn wanders into the desert town. There’s Stormtroopers there. Finn and Rey take the Falcon to evade them. It is said the Falcon is “swallowed” by the giant freighter once they get to space. A lot happens to Poe and Finn before that but we’ll save that for another day. There’s still a few details that need to be ironed out.

The Gist:
  • Finn and Rey steal the Falcon.
  • The kids end up on a huge freighter in space.
  • Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.
  • Han wants them off his plane ship.
  • Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
  • Something happens with the chessboard.
  • Han checks the video screen.
  • A gang is there!
  • Han explains the cargo (creature(s) without description).
  • Han hides the kids.
  • The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
  • It’s a good distraction.
  • The cargo is released.
  • Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
  • Hell breaks loose.
  • Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
  • Rey fights off the gang by herself.
  • Falcon has issues.
  • Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
  • Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.
Jason goes into further detail about what happens on The Falcon,
Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them. Clearly he’s not going to be pleased his ship was taken from the sand planet location by two strangers. He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn talks him down. My guess is something about Finn tips off Han he is an imperial but the details are vague. There’s notes about the chessboard and then hearing a noise. Han apparently checks out a video screen and then hides the kids in the cargo storage because he sees some unwanted guests on the video screen. Unless there’s a playful scene where Finn plays one of them on the chessboard, I wonder if the chessboard can project video of what’s outside?

The gang members arrive!

He also add more details about the end of the sequence, writing,
Because the gang members are there,  Han hides the kids. The pirates appear not to be too happy with Han Solo and their dealings. Han tries to negotiate with them and fails. A fight still breaks out between the smugglers and gang members. Rey and Finn pull a fuse out of the Falcon that acts a distraction that helps the situation for the famous smugglers. The cargo is released and pandemonium ensues! Chewbacca is wounded in the fight by the gang and Finn aids him making Han thankful. Rey ends up fighting the entire gang and winning single handedly and saving Finn as the cargo attempts to drag him away at one point. The Falcon has problems starting back up and Rey fixes it, impressing Han (I wonder if she just puts the fuse back?).  As they escape, some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield while they take off.

After they escape BB-8 reveals what he’s carrying and they go to meet “Rose” on the “Green Planet” which Puzzlewood shooting stood in for.

This sounds like this sequence will be key in establishing the relationships between the old cast and the new.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

'Heir to the Jedi' Mini Excerpt

The official Star Wars Books Facebook page has posted a special mini excerpt from the upcoming novel Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne.  The novel hits shelves on March 3rd and is Hearne's first Star Wars novel.  Heir to the Jedi is a first person novel, told from the perspective of Luke Skywalker.  It takes place between Episodes IV and V of the Star Wars saga.

Check out the except below,
When I’d first felt the Force on the Millennium Falcon, it had been the barest tickle of a presence in my consciousness and in the air around me that wasn't attributable to my five senses. Since then I had reached out to the Force on numerous occasions, and each time it grew marginally easier to make that contact and feel the Force swirl and coalesce around me, a not-quite-tangible but very real sensation, sort of like exercising and discovering over time that the same routine requires less effort because your strength and endurance have increased.

I didn't have any goal in mind other than increasing my awareness of the Force; there were no vegetables or other objects to nudge around in the cockpit, anyway, and I figured a greater grasp of the Force would help me perform such tasks more quickly later on, and perhaps allow me to move larger objects, or accomplish any number of other Jedi exercises.

The streaming starlines of hyperspace were excellent for clearing my mind. No distractions, just visual white noise. I remembered training with the remote, wearing a helmet with the blast shield down and feeling the Force as a power within and without that worked with me and yet was not me. That had been a twinge, a tiny awakening of a new part of my mind, like a half-glimpsed dawn through sleep-encrusted eyes. I knew I wasn't fully awake yet; I think part of me wanted to go back to sleep. But the dawn comes whether you sleep through it or not, and I think the Force might be like that—always there, but unseen until you make the effort.

My breathing slowed and deepened, and soon I became aware that there were others breathing on the ship. Drusil was nearest, sitting in an attitude of prayer or perhaps meditation like myself, attempting to soothe away her worries. Perhaps the activity of her mind was pure math. Farther back and to the left, Nakari felt happy, though I didn't know about what. Her breath was uneven and sort of purred—was she humming to herself? I couldn't hear that to confirm...
