Rumor: Indiana Jones Show At Disney World Closing To Make Way For Star Wars Expansion

By: Benjamin Hart

It seems another layer has been added to the heavily rumored and talked about "Star Wars Land" at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. PopWrapped reports that the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, which sits adjacent to Star Tours in Disney's Hollywood Studios, is scheduled to close at the end of the year. They explain that show was initially never intended to last more than a few years, and that now it is finally being closed to make way for "several major Star Wars additions... with construction set to begin in the spring of 2015." Also expected for closure is the nearby American Idol Experience, and that too, according to Popwrapped sources, is going to be replaced with Star Wars themed attractions, as well as the entire area surrounding Echo lake.

This news is bittersweet for both myself and others. The Indiana Jones Stunt show is an awesome, classic Disney attraction that has been operating since 1989. Losing it would be a great loss for the park. But at the same time, more Star Wars themed rides and attractions does sound very exciting. But as always this is just a rumor, take it with a grain of salt.

So sound off in the comments(or on Facebook& Twitter)! Is closing the Indy show justified by replacing it with something Star Wars? Or should they simply find somewhere else to put "Star Wars Land"?

Rumor: New 'Rebels' Details Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

Our friends over at Making Star Wars have received some very interesting information about the upcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels. While not earth-shattering, these details give us more insight into the plot and characters and even align with some previous rumors we've heard.

Warning: possible minor spoilers ahead!

  • Ezra was born in the first year of the Empire.
  • Ezra lives in a radio tower and collects stormtrooper helmets
  • Sabine has a way of making her explosions look beautiful.
  • A Devaronian named Vizago is an underground dealer/crime lord on Lothal.
  • Kanan is in possession of a holocron.
  • Kessel Spice mines will appear
  • Lots of Wookiees.
  • Obi-Wan does appear in the pilot, but only as a holographic recording.

TheForce.net also released a report that backs up Making Star Wars saying that not only will Obi-Wan appear in the pilot, but he will be voiced by James Arnold Taylor.

Obviously some of this we may have heard before, or simply assumed it after watching the trailers. But this does give more depth to Rebels, and makes the anticipation for it's premiere all the more stronger. It'll be nice to have a Clone Wars alumni like James Arnold Taylor appear on the show so soon. And featuring long talked about locations like Kessel and classic aliens like Wookiees will give it good Star Wars feel to it. I can't wait!

Rumor: Jason Isaacs & David Oyelowo To Play The Inquisitor & Agent Kallus In 'Rebels'

By: Benjamin Hart

Warning: Possible minor spoilers ahead!

After Making Star Wars dropped an assortment of details about Star Wars Rebels earlier, TheForce.net has revealed their own batch of information. As we previously reported, they confirm that Obi-Wan Kenobi, voiced by James Arnold Taylor, will appear in the pilot episode, and TFN adds that Agent Kallus will feature prominently in the first two episodes as the primary antagonist. What's really interesting is who they say might be voicing both Kallus and the much teased Imperial Inquisitor.

According to a TFN source who claims to have worked on the series and seen the pilot episode(s), Jason Isaacs will voice the Inquisitor and David Oyelowo will voice Agent Kallus. Isaacs is best know for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series and Oyelowo is set to appear in 2015's Jurassic World. Last year Oyelowo was rumored to be a part of Rebels cast along with since-confirmed cast members Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray and Steve Blum. He was also said to have been cast in Star Wars Episode VII, possibly playing the same character in both the film and the series.

Along with the casting news, the source confirms that the pilot/premiere is indeed two "regular" episodes together.

As always, this information is merely rumor, thus unconfirmed, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Rumor: Details About Episode VII Stormtroopers

By: Dominic Jones

Sounds like the Empire might be getting a bit of a redesign/upgrade for the sequel trilogy.  If you're trying to avoid spoilers, the following may contain plot details from Episode VII (we won't know for sure until December 18, 2015) so stop reading now.  The good folks over at MakingStarWars.net have heard some interesting details from various sources about what the stormtroopers in Episode VII will be.

According to MakingStarWars.net, the stormtroopers will be,
  • more advanced/modern looking than those seen in the original trilogy (OT)
  • the dimensions of the troopers will be slightly different from the OT (though the look of the troopers changed slightly throughout the OT, so this is nothing new to Star Wars)
  • new stormtoopers have ponchos and/or capes (my money's on ponchos)
  • There will be chrome and black stormtroopers.
I've more or less come to terms with the possibility that the Empire is still around in the sequel era (despite being against it initially).  The stormtrooper design changed slightly throughout the OT era so the idea that the design will have changed (minimally or majorly) over thirty years makes perfect sense.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: DarthSinister

Charlie White aka DarthSinister got his start customizing MEGO superheroes at a young age in the 1970’s and eventually moved on to Star Wars and Micronauts. After putting down customizing for decades he began to feel the artistic flicker resurge after becoming inspired by the artists around the web. His first step back into the hobby began on the RebelScum web site when he launched his digital customs or “PoorMan’s Customs” thread in 2009 using only images from the internet and a photoshop program. He heavily promoted the old MARVEL comics Star Wars series, giving them a much needed facelift in an attempt to bring modern relevance back to the beloved characters. He now resides mainly on the Imperial Shipyards, and while still doing digital imagery, he has begun a shift to actual hard customs since 2013.

DarthSinister's work is really nice on the eyes so be sure to take it all in. I never was exposed to the Marvel Star Wars comics, but after seeing the figures DarthSinister has created inspired by these comics, I'd sure like to see this part of the Star Wars universe more in depth.  He is the featured artist this month on the Customs for the Kid blog so to see more customs by this artist, check out the "Customs I Wish I Owned" feature.

The story surrounding Harrison Ford's injury on the set of Star Wars Episode VII keeps getting deeper. BBC news is now reporting that they have spoken with Harrison's publicist who confirms the actor actually broke his leg, which is contrary to a previous report that he had sustained a broken ankle in the accident, which involved an hydraulic door falling on him. The publicist also added that, "His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly... He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."

Once again, we wish Harrison a very speedy recovery!

Fan Imagining: "What If" Kenobi Were To Appear in 'Rebels'?

$

By: David Gremillion

It is being speculated that Obi-Wan might make an appearance in the new "Rebels" series. I'm not a fan of him being an active character, but certainly an appearance could work if it were used in a powerful way. How? Maybe something like this.

------------------------

"Wow!" Ezra exclaims. "I've never seen anything like that! Your lightsaber was all like 'bzz bzz' and you were all like 'swish ka-blam!"

"Yeah," Kanan rubs the kid's head. "No one's seen that in a long time. Get some sleep kid. Let your dreams be filled with Jedi Knights."

The door closes to Ezra's cabin, although he could still hear the kid making saber noises through the door.

"Dreams are where Jedi belong, I guess."

Kanan Jarrus sits alone in his cabin, left to his thoughts. His eyes glance at a small, flat device on a nearby table. He turns, facing the other way, but the device gnaws at him.

"No," he tells the device.

Still, it sits on the table, taunting him. He can't even see it, but he knows what lies there, waiting for him.

"I said no, dammit!" he growls through gritted teeth.

Minutes turn into hours as he can't help but glance back at the device over and over again. A single trickle of sweat drips down his back before he stands up quickly. He crosses the room in two strides and with a single slap of his hand, sends the table and the device flying across the cabin.

The small, flat device slides under his bunk. Kanan silently curses himself for letting his annoyance slip into anger. He drops to all fours and reaches under the bunk, but the device remains stubbornly out of his reach.

Kanan blows all the breath out of his lungs, closed his eyes, and concentrated. The device wiggled, shook, and twitched before it shot into his hand.

"I'm more out of shape than a Hutt," he muttered before pressing the a single button at the edge of the recording disc.

A blue hologram, no taller than a third of a meter, sprang to life in the palm of his hand.

"Jedi Emergency Code Delta-Gamma-Five-One-Five," the bearded Jedi began. "If you are hearing this, then Coruscant and the Jedi Temple have been severely compromised. Security is decimated and..." the man hesitated. "...most of us are already dead."

Kanan's hand trembled. He had heard this over a thousand times before, but it hit home every time for him like a death knell.

"We...we...we have failed. No matter what you hear, no matter what other message you receive, do NOT return home. Find refuge somewhere, anywhere else. Stay hidden, stay safe, stay alive. May the Force be with you, for it has not been with us."

The image faded, returning to the disc.

"Farewell, Master Kenobi," Kanan said to the device before laying back on his bunk, clutching it to his chest.

Rumor: Rian Johnson To Write/Direct Episodes VIII & IX

By: Benjamin Hart

We may have some big news for the next two films in the upcoming Sequel Trilogy! Deadline, The Wrap and Variety are all reporting that Rian Johnson will write and direct Episodes VIII and IX. Johnson is best know for directing Looper(2012) and The Brothers Bloom(2008), among others. He also directed three episodes of the very popular Breaking Bad TV series.

Deadline was the first to reveal this information, stating that Lucasfilm is currently making a deal with Johnson to write and direct both films, and he will be joined Ram Bergman as producer. The Wrap fired back saying that, yes, Johnson will be writing and directing Episode VIII, but he will only be writing the story treatment for Episode IX and not directing. Variety agreed with The Wrap, also reporting that he will only be directing Episode VIII. Lucasfilm has yet to release any statements confirming or denying this news, but Rian Johnson himself posted an interesting video to his Twitter. It features a quote from the 1983 film The Right Stuff, which is "Dear Lord, please don't let me f*** up." Could that be a hint to Rian's reaction to this news? Time will tell. Also, Jedi News points to another incident on Twitter a month ago that also hints that this news is true.

Remember, even though this comes news comes from several reliable sources, it is in no way official until Lucasfilm confirms it. Take it with a grain of salt for the time being.

Rumor: What will the State of the Galaxy Far Far Away be in Episode VII?

$

By: Dominic Jones

One of the most frequently asked questions about the sequel trilogy is what will the state of the Galaxy be?  Some are hoping for a peaceful galaxy at the start and things go crazy midway through the film.  Others think the film will open with the galaxy already at war.  According to JoBlo, it will be the latter.   JoBlo has heard from their sources that,

"- In general the setting looks kind of post-apocalyptic with a lot of leftover vestige from the empire. It seems much more dark and rough than the prequels. The feeling was that it has not been easy in the last 30 years since RETURN OF THE JEDI, probably with a very long war to truly "end" the empire.

- There are still white storm troopers in action. The empire is probably not completely dead."

This sounds very similar to what we heard earlier this week in the rumor about Sith Inquisitors being the villains in Episode VII.  It makes sense that the empire didn't completely fall after the death of the Emperor and the war between the Rebels and the Empire dragged on for 30 years.  The Empire troops could be easily convinced to team up with some new dark forces to bring down the Rebels as well as Luke Skywalker and his new Jedi.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Rumor: Harrison Ford to Miss Six Months Due to Injury

$
0
0

This is not what we wanted to hear.  What was initially suppose to be six to eight weeks of recovery, may in fact be six months for Harrison Ford.  The 71 year old Han Solo actor injured his leg on the set of Star Wars Episode VII two weeks ago, and a new report from Hollywood.com states that Ford may take up to six months to recover.

According to Hollywood.com,
"It has now emerged that he will not be able to return to film Star Wars: Episode VII for six months as he needs rehab treatment for his left limb, which was fixed with a number of metal plates during surgery this week (beg16Jun14).

A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Shooting is continuing, but Harrison won't be back for months... the film company is looking into extending filming well into the second half of this year to allow Ford time to get back on his feet."

Ford is still receiving treatment at a hospital in England but will fly back to Los Angeles with his actress wife Calista Flockhart to work with a physiotherapist, according to editors at the publication."

This is certainly not the news we were hoping for.  A six to eight week break for Ford likely wouldn't cause the production to much trouble, but six months could cause another delay in the release date for Episode VII.  On the bight side that could mean the tradition of releasing Star Wars films in May could continue, and we may wind up with two Star Wars films in 2016.  I, however, would rather see them complete this film on time and release it on December 18th, 2015 (as long as Harrison is able to recover in time and the production doesn't have to be rusher).

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Rumor: Tom Cruise to Appear in Episode VII

By: Dominic Jones

There are some rumors that were bound to get out at some point, and this is definitely one of them.  The British tabloid The Sun (who's reputation is sketchy at best) is reporting that Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow) met with JJ Abrams and the Episode VII production crew in London this week to discuss a cameo in the film.

While Abrams and Cruise have worked together before on various Mission Impossible films, it seems very unlikely that Cruise will appear in Episode VII.  Abrams, as well as many other members of the crew, have said that they want to avoid stunt casting and casting, arguably, the most famous actor in Hollywood does kind of seem like stunt casting.  But on the other hand, anything is possible....

Lucasfilm: Episode VII release will NOT be delayed by Ford injury

By Chris Seekell

Following a rumor picked up on earlier today by Jedi News stating that a meeting to discuss delaying the production of Star Wars Episode VII has taken place at Pinewood, TheForce.net has reached out to a spokesperson from Lucasfilm to comment on a possible delay. They were told the following information.

Lucasfilm would not comment on the extent of the production delays, but a company spokesperson told TFN, "There is no change in the release date."

So it looks like while the film production may or may not be delayed by Harrison Ford's injury on the set of the film, Lucasfilm is still expecting Episode VII to be released December 18th, 2015 as scheduled.

Rian Johnson's Representative Confirms He Will Direct Episode VIII

By: Dominic Jones

Late last week the Internet was taken by storm when rumors began circulating that Rian Johnson (Looper, Breaking Bad) would be directing Star Wars Episode VIII and writing Episode IX.  Now one of Johnson's representatives has confirmed to the LA Times that the rumors are in fact true!  Johnson will be taking over control of the sequel trilogy from JJ Abrams, who is currently working on Episode VII at Pinewood Studios in London.  No word on what (if any) role Abrams might play in the remainder of the sequel trilogy.  Disney has declined to comment on the rumors.

Personally I am excited at the prospect of Johnson directing Episode VIII.  I absolutely loved Looper and Johnson directed one of my favorite Breaking Bad episodes (and one of my least favorites, but I'll give him a mulligan on that!)

While this is very close to a confirmation, we still have to hear from Disney/Lucasfilm before it's official.  (And given that someone is talking to the press, I would guess that the announcement on StarWars.com will be coming sooner rather than later).
