Anthony Daniels Confirms Simon Pegg is on the Episode VII Set

It seems Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead) has been hanging out on the set of Star Wars Episode VII.  C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels tweeted today that he was having a conversation with Pegg on set about their prior work together and the fan film Pegg and his frequent collaborator Nick Frost made.  What Pegg is doing on the set is a mystery, however.  The actor has been rumored to have a role in the film, something he denied would ever happen.   Things could have changed and Pegg may have been cast in the film despite his earlier denial, or he might simply have been visiting the set to spend time with his pal, director, JJ Abrams.  I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

Check out Daniels tweets below,
The spoof/fan film Daniels is referring is this,

YouTube user The Unusual Suspect combined clips from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi to create a trailer for the Original Trilogy based off of the second Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. In the mashup trailer, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Han, and Lando are the "Guardians of the Galaxy," who are "hooked on a feeling."

Rumor: Mandalorians and Sith Witches to Appear in Episode VII

By: Dominic Jones

Could we be seeing two fan favorite factions making appearances in Episode VII?  Latino Review is reporting that Mandalorians and "Sith Witches" (possibly nightsisters) will be appearing in the new film.   The Mandalorians are suppose to play a major role in the film, and some are already drawing connections between this and the rumors Jedi Hunters/Inquisitors being the villains in Episode VII.

Both Mandalorians and Nightsisters (if that's what there Sith witches turn out to be, if they're even in the film) are fan favourites, despite never having actually appeared in a Star Wars film (unless you count Boba and Jango Fett wearing Mandalorian armor).  They draw their popularity from the now non canon Legends universe of books and comics, as well as The Clone Wars animated series.

While both Mandos and Sith witches would make interesting villains, neither of them make me any more or less excited about Episode VII.  They would both serve the purpose of having significant villains without having to bring the Sith back, though I'm hoping they go in a completely new direction and give us a villain we've never heard of before.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

'Star Wars: Commander' Mobile Strategy Game Announced

By: Benjamin Hart

Disney and Lucasfilm have been working hard to release many new mobile Star Wars games as of late! Now the Disney Interactive Tumblr has announced a new mobile strategy game titled Star Wars: Commander. It's said to feature "characters, locations and technology" from the Galaxy far, far away and will be released world wide on IOS, Android and Windows devices this Summer, with limited early access being given to select international markets.

Other than that, nothing is said about the actual content or gameplay of the game. Since it's being touted as a strategy game, I personally hope for something in the same vein as Empire At War, which is a game that is sorely in need of a sequel/reboot. The name certainly invokes a connection to an even earlier Star Wars strategy game, Star Wars: Force Commander.

Nevertheless, it's definitely a great time to be a Star Wars fan, and a Star Wars gamer!

Lucas Museum Coming To Chicago

By: Benjamin Hart

It's finally official! After a long battle to secure a location for building the touted Lucas Cultural Arts Museum, the maker himself, George Lucas, has selected Chicago as the new home for his museum. Lucas' first choice was in San Francisco at the Presidio, where Lucasfilm headquarters resides, but he was met with strong resistance. In a statement to the Chicago Tribune, Lucas said:

“Choosing Chicago is the right decision for the museum, but a difficult decision for me personally because of my strong personal and professional roots in the Bay Area.”

Today the Museum's board struck a deal with the city of Chicago and Mayor Rahm Emanuel to bring the museum to the city. It will be located on the parking lots between Soldier Field and McCormick Place on the Chicago lakefront. It is expected to open in 2018. Once completed, the museum is said to house pieces from George Lucas' personal art collection, as well items from the Lucasfilm archives, like a scale model of the Millennium Falcon. The Museum's board is also expected to change the name of the museum to the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The project is said to be still lacking approval from Chicago Plan Commission and may attract opposition from green space activists, so we certainly wish George and company the best of luck in making the museum a reality!

Rumor: Oscar Isaac to Have Larger Role in Episode VII Due to Harrison Ford's Injury

By: Dominic Jones

Ever since Harrison Ford injured his ankle leg on the set of Star Wars Episode VII, fans have been wondering how this might affect the film.  While Lucasfilm claims that the release date has not changed, with reports that Ford may take up to six months to recover, something's got to give.  A new report from the NY Post states that fellow Episode VII cast member Oscar Isaac's role in the film may be expanded to fill some of the void left by the injury to Ford.   However, Disney reps have denied the report.

Isaac is probably the best choice to step up in this scenario.  He has experience playing the lead role in films, having played titular character in Inside Llewyn Davis.  Increasing in Isaac's role, allowing for Ford's role to be somewhat decreased, could be the way to walk the line of giving Ford adequate time to recover without halting the production.  As for whether this is true or not, is still up for debate.  Just like the reports of how long Ford will take to recover, the reports of how much the film will be affected by the injury have been all over the map.  Reports suggest there was an emergency meeting at Pinewood Studios on Monday to discuss how best to move forward because of the injury, what was decided is still a mystery.  Some are suggesting that the film will have to be pushed back (maybe to a May 2016 release), while others claiming the film will not be affected much, if at all.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Justin (@JustinL81 on Twitter) of Jedi News recently posted a photo of a Star Wars Rebels backpack and lunch box, which he found at his local Toys R Us. The backpack reads "RISE," followed by something that may read "Hail the Galactic Empire," and bears the Imperial Symbol and an animated stormtrooper. The lunch box is similar to the backpack, but only includes the Rebels logo instead of the phrase about the Galactic Empire.

If they aren't already available, these items should be in stock at your local Toys R Us soon.

Rumor: Star Wars Episode VII: The Search For Luke Skywalker

By: Benjamin Hart

(Possible spoilers ahead)

Our friends at Making Star Wars have caught wind of an interesting rumor about Star Wars Episode VII that comes from Ain't It Cool News. In the midst of an article about Harrison Ford's broken leg, they dropped this little interesting nugget of information:

"Han Solo is pretty much the main character of EPISODE VII, leading a galaxy-wide search party for Luke Skywalker."

Now this is not the first time we've heard that Han Solo/Harrison Ford might have a big role in Episode VII. Out of all the returning cast members from the Original Trilogy, Harrison seems best fit to take the lead in the next film, or at least have a heavy presence alongside new faces like Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. And if this is indeed true, it begs the question; how will the affect the production of Episode VII? Lucasfilm is still confident that they will meet the December 18th, 2015 release date, so we'll see.

Also, having Luke be a macguffin of sorts that launches our heroes on their adventure does sound interesting. This idea could tie into previous rumors that claim that Luke has been fighting Jedi hunting Sith Inquisitors over the past 30+ years and cannot fight them anymore, which could force him into hiding(perhaps on Tatooine?).

As always, this is merely a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Disney Rep. Denies Expanding Oscar Isaac's Role

By: Lillian Skye

Since reports have shown that Ford requires up to six months in rehab after the accident on set where he broke his leg while filming at Pinewood Studios in England, many believed that Oscar Isaac would have a larger role in Episode VII since a source told the New York Post that, "They are now beefing up Oscar's role to be bigger with Harrison [Ford] injured."

However, according to Philly, "Star Wars bosses," have denied the reports that have suggested that director J.J. Abrams is expanding actor Oscar Isaac's role in Episode VII, despite Harrison Ford's on-set injury that put him in rehab.

A representative for Disney denied the rumor about Isaac's role being expanded, stating: "This is categorically not true."

Despite Ford's injury, Star Wars Episode VII is still expected to hit theatres December 2015.

DARTH DADDY's CUSTOMIZING CORNER: SJEFKE aka YUZZUMS' CUSTOMS

by: Darth Daddy

A customizer does not need a large body of work to be a great customizer.  My two favorite customs produced this year were made by a relative newcomer to the Star Wars custom action figure community.  Jeff Thompson aka Sjefke of Yuzzums' Customs has created some superlative customs since he jumped onto the scene.  Sjefke ran right out of the gate making fully sculpted action figures with extremely complex builds that even the most experienced customizers would consider a challenge to reproduce.  His Cane Adiss action figure tied my Chukha Trok and Kaink action figures for the Grand Prize at Yakface.com's Yakfinities #50 and when you look at his figure it's easy to see why.  Sjefke has some serious talent.   Sjefke customizes with and for his kids, and there is no greater incentive to make something cool than being inspired by your own children.

His forum posts describe each build in great detail so if you think you'd ever want to try and rebuild what he has created, Sjefke provides a great step-by-step guide to help his readers along the way.

I'm a huge fan of his Wam "Blam" Lufba action figure.  It's by far, one of the best I ever saw.  I'd love to have one in my own collection one day.

I can't wait to see what he produces next.  I'm always eager to check out his thread whenever I see a new post.  He's definitely one of my favorite new customizers on the scene.  Be sure to keep an eye out.  We will be following his career with great interest!

David Cronenberg Discusses his Brush with Star Wars

By: Lillian Skye

Director David Cronenberg, who recently received the Film-Maker on the Edge award from the Provincetown film festival in Massachusetts, and discussed the time he turned down the opportunity to direct Return of the Jedi.

"I got a phone call once asking if I was interested in directing one of the Star Wars sequels," said the director. "And instead of saying 'Oh my God, yes!' I said, 'Well, you know, I don't really do other people's material.' Click. I don't know how far it would have gone, but it ended there."

Cronenberg is used to writing and directing his own material, like he did for Consumed, Videodrome, and Cosmopolis----a freedom he would probably not get when it comes to Star Wars.   In addition, Cronenberg's style is very edgy, with most of his films being in the horror/thriller genre, which may not have translated well into a Star Wars film.

"This is a big studio movie that's going to cost $200m," he said of working his time working the Total Recall remake, another big budget film, which he ultimately left early into pre-production. "They're going to give it to a guy who's directed a couple of rock videos because he's someone they can control. But it's not in my nervous system to do something like that."

Accroding to JW Rinzler's The Making of Return of the Jedi (2013), Cronenberg was one of many directors considered to direct Return of the Jedi, before Richard Marquand was ultimately chosen.  Others considered include: Richard Donner, Terry Gilliam, Alan Parker, and Bruce Beresford.

Rumor: Billie Lourd Cast In Episode VII

By: Benjamin Hart

There's been a lot of speculation about whether or not Daisy Ridley is playing Han & Leia's daughter in Star Wars Episode VII. But up until now we hadn't considered the possibility of Carrie Fisher's actual daughter having a role. Latino Review is back with another casting rumor, and they claim that none other than Billie Lourd, the daughter of Carrie Fisher and Bryan Lourd, has joined the cast. They admit her part could just be a cameo, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Considering that Star Wars has a history of giving crew members, and even family, cameos(George Lucas and all of his children appeared as background characters in Revenge Of The Sith), this story is not far fetched by any means. We'll have to wait and see.

As always, this is just a rumor, take it seriously at your own risk.
